Guayaba-Maracuyá
GUAVA · PASSION FRUIT · LUSH

Guayaba and maracuyá, guava and passion fruit, is a duet. Guava hums low, rosy and honeyed, like a pear that moved somewhere warm and never came back. Passion fruit comes in loud, tart and tangy, a one-fruit brass section. Together over ice they trade verses until the plastic cup runs dry. I drank mine walking Pacific Boulevard on a Saturday, which is to say I drank it slowly, in a crowd, stopping every few feet to look at boots, dresses, fruit, and somebody else's shopping bag. Some pours cool you down. This one gives you somewhere to go.
A LITTLE HISTORY, ON THE HOUSE
Pacific Boulevard was fading by the 1970s, with storefronts sitting empty. Latino families opened shops, and by the early 1980s they had turned it back into one of the busiest shopping streets in LA County, quinceañera dresses in one window, boots and hats in the next. Nobody handed this boulevard its comeback. It was built one shop at a time.
